On April 17th, 2007 Fedor Konyukhov together with Oscar Konyukhov (the project manager) and Vladimir Zaycev (a film director of “MUH” TV) arrived to the east coast of Greenland.

The team went through four flights in order to get to Tasilaq, Greenland: from Moscow they flew to Copenhagen (Denmark); then to Reykjavik (Iceland); then to Kulusuk (Greenland); and then finally the team arrived to Tasilaq by a helicopter.

Fedor Konyukhov is planning to start the expedition on May 1st, 2007. In the remaining time before the start he has to get use to the climate and altitude and get physically ready to cross Greenland by a dog sled. The weather is favorable: - 5 C and the wind is 0-2 knots. According to the forecast such weather will remain until the end of the week.

The team is staying at a B&B called Nansen House. The team’s house mates are two men from Holland who are getting ready to ski across Greenland as a way of preparing themselves to ski to the South Pole in November of this year. This is a very common way of preparation for people who want to make sure they are ready for reaching the South Pole; the Ice Cap of Greenland is almost no different from the Ice Cap of Antarctica. That is why there are a lot of people from Europe and the United States who are training here before going to Antarctica. Arrival of Fedor Konyukhov to Tasilaq made a lively response. The majority has heard about the Russian explorer but it is the first time people can meet him face to face. Fedor Konyukhov skied to North Pole three times (1988, 1989, and solo in 1990). In 1996 Fedor skied solo to the South Pole and right after that climbed Vinson Massif (the highest mountain of Antarctica) in order to reach his goal of climbing all the Seven Highest Picks of the World.

The main sponsor of this expedition across Greenland is “Modern Academy for the Humanities” (www.muh.ru/). Last year when Fedor Konyukhov was here with the ice boat “MAH”, a series of films were made of his attempt to cross Greenland by the ice boat. Right now these films are being shown to the population and visitors of Tasilaq.
