As of Tuesday, January 23rd, the maxi-yacht “SYNERGY” has been exactly one week sailing the Atlantic Ocean, and has covered 1500 nautical miles. There are 1600 more miles to go before Antigua.
For the last three days the boat has been sailing with the light north-east winds. According the meteorologist Lee Bruce, we need to keep going south in order to get more stable wind. We don’t have yet the expected wind in this area of 20-25 knots. “SYNERGY” is carrying two full mainsail and two spinnakers. The average speed of the boat is 8-9 knots.
The team is in a great spirit. Everyone is in anticipation of stable winds, which we should get in 24 hours.
The maxi-yacht is 800 miles from the Equator. The air temperature is 35 C and the water temperature is 26 C. Today, every Russian teammate took a dive into the ocean, while being tied around with the rope.
Position of the boat as of 23/01/2007 is 15 00 N and 33 20 W
